In the early Fall of 2018, we had the incredible opportunity to visit the glamorous Amalfi Coast in the south of Italy! This was a true dream to return to my favorite destination and experience the luxury hotels, breathtaking sights, and Michelin star restaurants that makes this the perfect romantic holiday! I am excited to share the highlights of my trip and hope to inspire you to discover the magic of the Amalfi Coast!
How to Get Here
We started our journey all the way from Texas and found ourselves in Naples, we still had a ways to go! If you have time and want a budget friendly option, I recommend taking a train from Naples station to Sorrento. From there you can hop on a bus that will take you through a scenic route and drop you off in the heart of Positano! Alternately, taxis are also on standby at Naples station to take you on a relaxing and comfortable journey! Be sure to book these in advance as it can get quite busy during high season!
Where to Eat and Drink
Wow, where do I start? Italy itself is a culinary experience and Positano has some of the best world famous restaurants! I am dreaming of the food as I am writing this! Walk down couple dozen stairs and you will reach the lively Spiaggia Grande full of cute and delicious cafés to suit every taste bud! Did I mention you get some of the best views here to enjoy with your meal? We particularly loved the gourmet pizzas and open air seating at Chez Black, there is even live bands performing nightly! The atmosphere is absolutely romantic, so be sure to book early! Another favorite was our luxury dining experience at the open terrace of Le Sirenuse, their Ravioli still has me drooling today! You have to check out this amazing hotel with its prime spot, buzzling chic bar, and gourmet cuisine with amazing sunset views!
Where to Stay
We had the most stunning views from both our hotel stays, that we had a tough time leaving our room! And to be honest, we often returned to our room because we preferred the views from there than walking in the heat!
Casa Cosenza
This family run Air B&B has comfortable rooms with terraces that feature the gorgeous views of Positano! We stayed in the Romantic Room and spent most of our time admiring the glistening sea and watching the crowd down below at Spiaggia Grande! There are many many stairs to climb before reaching here, but I would say its still worth it!
Villa Fiorentino
This was a truly luxury experience with amazing staff and service! Tucked away in a hill, this boutique hotel is worth every penny and will be the most memorable part of your stay! Each morning we were served a custom made delicious breakfast on our private terrace, which by the way had its own bridge connecting from the room! How cool is that?!
My favorite part of our stay here has got to be their rooftop pools!! That’s right, there is more than one! The first day, we were taken up to the terrace and given our personalized welcome drink by the infinity pool with the absolute best views I have seen of the famous Positano hill! I felt like I was dreaming, I simply couldn’t believe that we were going to spend the next 3 days in paradise! Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, they even have a private spa Jacuzzi that you can reserve and the views here will stay with you forever!
Punta Tragara
Punta Tragara is the most impressive hotel in Capri! It is perched high above the famous Faraglioni rocks which means you have breathtaking views of the sea from every room! We absolutely loved our stay here and especially looked forward to the exceptional buffet and a la carte breakfast each morning while enjoying the postcard perfect views of Capri!
During our stay we went on a culinary adventure while dining at the two onsite restaurants; Monzu and Mamma. The food here was delicious and everything you would expect for authentic Italian cuisine to be! You will get a luxury dining experience which includes a tasting menu as well, we opted for this and loved sampling their creations!
The property boasts a beautiful pool where you can take a dip and admire the beauty of Capri while enjoying a thirst-quenching fizzy long drink or cocktail from the onsite bar; Monzu American Bar.
The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable and comfortable! The path to the hotel lobby is car free, so the only way to get here is through a scenic walk through town! You will be greeted with a smile at the dock and given a map to reach the property while your bags are taken care of and arrive straight to your room!
Things To Do
There are so many great activities to take your Positano vacation to the next level! We decided to take a cooking class and try our hand at making some authentic Italian dishes and also opted for a romantic sunset cruise along the famed coastline!
Cooking Class
We booked our Italian cooking experience with Cooking Vacations. They have a wide selection of cooking classes to choose from and day tours as well to combine with your culinary dining! We had the opportunity to participate in an authentic Italian cooking class hosted by the lovely Lauren herself! She is very sweet and makes you feel at home! The class was held at her home set against the dramatic backdrop of the sea and the famous Positano hill! The food was delicious and the best part is that we got to learn some great recipes to take back home with us! Lauren makes the experience personal and treats you like family! If you find yourself in Italy, be sure to take one of her classes for a very fun activity that is sure to be very memorable!
Sunset Cruise
This was pure romance and magic which is everything Positano is known for! We decided to book our boat ride with Blue Star Positano and had an amazing evening! Our boat felt luxurious and we were treated to delicious snacks and champagne, this is definitely a tour to take your special someone to! Our private tour charted by the wonderful Peppe showed us the secrets of the unique coastline and we saw one of the most beautiful sunsets during our entire stay! To watch the day turn to night and lights twinkling on is a feeling I will always remember!
Island Tour of Capri
The best way to capture the beauty of Capri is from the sea of course! When you are on the island for a day trip or an overnight stay, you absolutely must take a cruise around the island to see all the famous sights, including passing right through the Faraglioni Rocks and touring the ever so popular Blue Grotto! I recommend booking a private tour so you can go at your own pace and avoid the crowds for a truly romantic experience!
