Overview

Our first time to the beautiful island of Turks and Caicos absolutely blew us away! Just a short four hour flight from Houston brought us to this tropical paradise that feels exotic and secluded. The water color here is comparable to that of the Maldives with its crystal clear turquoise blue shades that feels never ending! As we flew over the island, I knew the first thing I would do upon reaching the Somerset Resort was to head right down to the white powdery sand Grace Bay Beach to feel the warm sun and the cool Caribbean breeze. I am so excited to share our experience staying at the intimate and elegant Somerset Resort that made our trip absolutely special and memorable from the moment we arrived at the grand entrance.

Accommodation

We stayed in the 2 bedroom ocean and pool view villa that featured a gourmet kitchen & appliances,  imported marble floors throughout, spacious bathrooms with soaking tubs & rain showers, and flat screen TVs in the living room and each bedroom. My mornings were spent sitting on our balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean while sipping on a refreshing mimosa! I absolutely loved the turn down service at night with bottles of water and chocolates waiting for us on our nightstand after arriving from dinner. You can even choose to have a private chef cooked dinner in your villa! It’s little details like this from the exceptional staff that made our stay truly wonderful.

I want to take a moment to talk about my favorite spot on the property, this exquisite foyer as you enter the building to the villas! I found myself often just lounging here in the shade and taking in the beauty of the surroundings with the wide open space and elegant décor!

Dining

Enjoy the Caribbean cuisine paired with fresh local ingredients at the main fine dining Barbetta restaurant open for breakfast and dinner. We loved our morning stroll to breakfast along the peaceful and beautiful tropical courtyard.

For a delicious dinner, I absolutely recommend trying the famous house seafood paella which is great for sharing! My favorite was the lamb chops which paired perfectly with my watermelon cocktail!

After dinner head just a few steps to the lounge and bar to wind down the night with some delicious cocktails and live music.  

Pools & Beach

Split your time in the sun between the zero-edge infinity pool or the longest lap pool in all of Turks and Caicos! If you enjoy swimming, you are in for a real treat! There are plenty of padded lounge chairs, towels, and even sunscreen so you have everything covered for a great day in the sun! When lunch time rolls around, grab a yummy snack at the poolside Barbetta bar surrounded by tall palm trees and the island breeze. There are plenty of attendants around so you are sure to be well cared for!

The absolutely breathtaking Grace Bay beach is really why we traveled far and wide for, and the Somerset is conveniently located on 4.6 acres of this stretch of the soft white sand turquoise blue beach! The shades of blue found in the crystal clear water here is really something you have to see to believe! We have been to several Caribbean islands, but the beach here is far superior and rivals that of Maldives!

Be sure to check out the many complimentary water activities available for guests! We absolutely loved sailing on the Hobie Cat, you can even request a captain to take you into the sea if you don’t feel comfortable operating it yourself! Either way, you will have an unforgettable ride along the gentle waves with perfect views of the coastline watching the water turn from the shallow turquoise blue to the deep blue sea!

Another fun activity was going kayaking in the Somerset’s crystal clear kayaks, this was such an unique experience having full visibility into the water & fishes below us!

Unforgettable Experiences

Have you ever had a private candlelit sunset beach dinner with your toes in the sand while watching the island sunset to beautiful shades of pink and purple? Well, this is your chance to experience this once in a lifetime romantic setting to celebrate a special occasion or to surprise a loved one! This was undoubtedly our favorite evening in the entire trip, each course of our chef prepared meal was delicious and brought out to us by our own attendant. You can tell there was a lot of effort put into the beautiful setting with fresh flowers, tiki torches, and twinkling lights to really create a very romantic and intimate setting that felt like we were the only ones on the beach. I simple can’t imagine a better way to enjoy the sunset!

Why go to the spa when the spa can come to you? On our last day in paradise, we decided to treat ourselves to a very relaxing and rejuvenating couples hot oil Swedish massage right in the comfort of our villa! Our living room transformed into a tranquil spa with the large sliding balcony doors wide open to let the island breeze in. When we awoke from our massage, my husband and I looked at each other feeling so very relaxed and peaceful with all the tension relived in our muscles from all the fun in the water!

Summary

If you’re looking for world class service, luxurious amenities, and plenty of activities then the Somerset is the premier destination for an unforgettable vacation! We will definitely have to come back and experience the famous Tuesday night beach BBQ & fire dance at the Somerset that everyone spoke so highly about! From romantic getaways to family bonding trips, the Somerset has something for everyone. We fell in love with the beauty of the island and already planning a return to discover more of the uncrowded beaches, uninhabited islands, and unspoiled reefs and waters!
