Overview

The journey to Copal Tree Lodge is really where the excitement begins! Once we landed in Philip S.W. Goldson International airport, we were guided to our connection with Tropic Air and wow the views flying over the land and ocean were breathtaking! As a tiny plane, we just so happen to sit right behind the pilot, what an experience! This really is the fasted and most scenic way to get around Belize, be sure to check timings of your international flight arrival because the domestic transfer times are few and limited.

This was our 4^th time to Belize and we knew we wanted to escape to the lush jungles of Punta Gorda, while still having all the comfort and service of a luxury hotel! Copal Tree Lodge far exceeded our expectations with the view of the Rio Grande River peeking through miles of lush vegetation and staff that goes above and beyond to meet our every request at any time! This truly is a jungle paradise that still feels like a hidden gem, and I am so excited to share the highlights of our stay!

Accommodation

If you can swing it, I highly recommend staying in the exclusive 1 of 4 Signature Canopy Suites! Our suite was very spacious and modern with a panoramic wrap around private veranda with views of the majestic Maya Mountains! The highlight however has to be the outdoor bath tub where I definitely spent quite some time just soaking in the beauty of the lush tropical surroundings in utmost privacy and seclusion!

Dining

Did you know 70% of the food serviced at Copal Tree Lodge is grown here on their farm within the property? We could really taste the freshness of the ingredients used in every meal from the free range scrambled eggs we had every morning at breakfast to the savory meats and vegetables we looked forward to every evening at dinner! My favorite meals featured their hand made tortillas which were so soft, you can even take their traditional Belizean tortilla making class with the chef! All of our meals were at the Garden Restaurant with wrap around outdoor seating where we saw plenty of hummingbirds close up!  Do not miss a late night drink at the bar here, it’s a great place to unwind after a long day of fun filled activities!

Pools

Staying in the Canopy level suites also gives you access to the private infinity edge pool and bar area with an impressive lounge area shared by only 3 other guests. You can see the Mayan mountains on one side and the Rio Grande River peeking through the palm trees from the pool! Needless to say, much of my days here were spent with a refreshing drink in hand and frequent dips in the pool. I highly recommend the Watermelon Smash and a Pina Colada that was truly the freshest and best I have ever had!

There is also the main lodge pool for all other guests, here you will find comfortable cushioned lounge chairs surrounded by the lush tropical foliage offering plenty of shade.

Activities

There are more activities to choose from than you probably have time for! There is something going on every day from jungle adventure tours to cultural experiences. I can’t recommend enough how magical it was cruising down the Rio Grande river at sunset, and it’s conveniently located right below the hotel just a short funicular ride down from the top of the hotel! Yes, there are funiculars around the property as a mode of transportation, how unique is that?!?

We also especially loved touring the onsite farm where 70% of their cuisine comes from! We got to tour the extensive gardens, tropical fruit trees, and livestock such as this absolutely adorable baby lamb! This was definitely a great start to our trip and a very memorable experience, the location of Copal Tree Lodge is truly beautiful and well maintained with lots of care and love!

Summary:

Copal Tree Lodge brings total relaxation in the jungles of Belize combined with world class service and luxury amenities! Perfectly romantic for couples as a small boutique hotel, they really do care for each guest with utmost attention! We felt so well taken care, the staff was always friendly and absolutely wonderful to interact with! Remote and not very densely populated, Copal Tree Lodge offers the perfect escape from the busy world outside as we take a moment to connect to the beauty of nature around us! We loved waking up to the monkeys howling and watching the sunrise over the Mayan Mountains! We left with a feeling of being in an unspoiled and exclusive retreat, we can’t wait to return to this jungle paradise!
