Location & Getting There:
The excitement kicked in as soon as we landed in Belize International Airport (BZE). We quickly made our way to Maya Air for our short 20 min very scenic domestic transfer to Dangriga over the turquoise waters! We felt like VIP as we were the only ones dropped off at Dangriga Airstrip and our friendly driver from Hamanasi was waiting with all smiles to take us to our home away from home! The drive was 40 minutes to reach our resort in Hopkins village but we don’t know where the time flew because our driver doubled as a tour guide explaining the beautiful nature and village life we saw along the way! The best part is that the staff plans and arranges your entire journey to and from the resort so once you’ve stepped foot onto the country at BZE, you can sit back and travel stress freeing knowing everything is in good hands!
Accommodation:
Elegantly refined rooms made our stay so comfortable that we almost didn’t want to leave our room! I highly recommend staying in the privacy of the deluxe treehouse suite which features a private outdoor Jacuzzi for romantic evenings with view of the treetops and sounds of the local birds!
This was my childhood dreams of having a treehouse coming true! Our treehouse was very spacious with a large bathroom featuring colorful mosaic tiles, open living room with plenty of windows for natural light, and a separate room with a romantic canopy bed decorated with fresh flowers and offering views of the jungle outside! For honeymooners, this is the perfect way to celebrate a new life together!
Alternatively, you can also choose from many of their Beachfront rooms and suites if you prefer to be closer to the center of the resort with views of the ocean!
Restaurant & Dining:
Wow, where do I begin with our culinary journey here? I fell in love with the local Belizean cuisine with a splash of Caribbean flavor and the staff were so accommodating to all my dietary needs! The main restaurant is called Singanga where many of their fresh ingredients come from their organic garden which you can even take a tour of! We looked forward every day to waking up and walking through the paths in the jungle (or riding our bikes) to arrive at the restaurant for our breakfast served on the porch surrounded by the tropical flora! When booking your stay, you can choose to go a la carte or the all-inclusive route for the ultimate dining experience!
After every exciting but tiring adventure we went on, we couldn’t wait to come back to Singanga to be greeted by the warm staff and choose from one of their many delicious dishes from their lunch menu to refuel for the day! We felt truly relaxed and loved sharing our day’s stories over a refreshing freshly picked coconut and my personal favorite, the chicken stew!
Amenities:
There is so much to keep you occupied during your stay that you will never want to leave! One of my favorite ways to relax (once I could gather myself to leave the treehouse) was to feel the ocean breeze from one of the many colorful hammocks among the beauty of tall coconut trees and the turquoise Caribbean Sea!
In the evenings, you can mingle with the guests by the pool during happy hour featuring drink specials and tasty hors d’oeuvres. I can’t think of a better way to end a perfect day here in paradise!
Hamanasi offers a very unique treat for arriving guests, a welcome massage to take the jet lag stress away! It was so good, we booked another massage during our stay! You can choose to have a massage in the privacy of your room or my recommendation- beachside in a gazebo with the sound of the gentle waves!
Some other ways to spend your days if you are not out on an adventure is to reserve a bike and ride along the stone paths through the jungle and around the beach front. You can even grab a kayak and go exploring around the shore, we spotted a manatee right by the dock!
Adventures:
Reef & Rainforest
Hamanasi is the one stop destination for families, couples, and single travelers who want to experience the best attractions Belize has to offer! If you want the perfect blend of exciting marine and mainland activities, the Reef and Rainforest package is the way to go! This is what we did and it’s a great value for your money, it includes the airfare from BZE to Dangriga along with the transportation to the property, all our meals, and of course many adventures to choose from daily! My favorite was definitely the snorkeling excursion to the Barrier Reef where I spotted nurse sharks, sting rays, and even a sea turtle! The marine life is so rich here and one of the most beautiful things to experience being in the underwater world! The Hamanasi Team were great and made me feel so comfortable actually touching a starfish! They would point out sea life I would have never spotted myself, like a lobster hidden under a rock!
Another very popular activity is the Mayflower Jungle and Waterfall Hike! Its a steep and demanding hike through the dense jungle but once you arrive at the stunning waterfall, you will find that it’s worth the journey! You can even see all the way out to the Carribean Sea, the views alone make this a must do activity when in Belize! Even if you are new to hiking, you can count on the amazing guides to keep you at ease and make this a fun activity!
Specialty Rainforest Adventures
Specialty adventures are not included in the Reef and Rainforest package but you can certainly add it on at an additional charge. With so much that Hamanasi offers, you will never be short of things to do, just time! We love zip lining so we decided to go on the jungle zip lining adventure and this turned out to be one of our favorite activities! If you are an adrenaline junkie and love the rush of flying through the jungle canopy with incredible views of the mountains and rivers, this is for you! Did you know, Belize has some of the longest and fastest zip lines in Central America? You can experience it all here!
Summary:
This may have been my 3rd time to Belize but the amazing time & experiences I had at Hamanasi sets this trip apart and has me dreaming of coming back! The staff truly made my stay memorable, my favorite was the beautiful flower filled Jacuzzi set up for our romantic night in! This was followed by dinner inside our treehouse which was absolutely perfect! You can tell they have an eye for detail and their high quality service to the guests is their top priority! If you are thinking of a world class Caribbean destination filled with lots of adventure, relaxation, and delicious cuisine, then I hope I’ve convinced you to book your next trip at Hamanasi!
